St George's House - Information

St Georges House is a 25-bed project, which accommodates young persons between the ages of 16 and 25 years. The project is staffed 24 hours however, it is not a direct Hostel and young persons are only nominated directly by Housing Officers within the Hub.

If your application is successful, you will be able to reside at St Georges House for a period of up to 6 months. Once settled at the project you will be expected to agree and sign a personal development plan. This is tailored to suit your individual needs; you may have areas of concern with such things as budgeting, cooking or poor social skills. A Support Worker will be allocated to you and he/she will work intensively to help towards conquering these obstacles.

We at St Georges House understand that up until now you may have led unsettled way of life, but we hope to provide you with a safe and secure environment in which to live. We only ask that you respect ALL furnishings and equipment within the project, are honest and willing to co-operate fully with your support program. We do not accept anti-social behaviour and there is zero tolerance on the use of illegal drugs/substances.

Bath Half Marathon

Update from Ryan:

My brother in law finished the Bath Half in 1hr 48mins, and I crossed the line in 2hrs 20mins... it was a cold, miserable and very badly organised event but we did it and are hungry to do it again...

14th March, Ryan says:

This weekend i’m running in the Bath Half marathon!! I’m running it as part of a much bigger year-long challenge called the Juice Squeeze Challenge. In essence we’re doing a shed load of personal challenges including my bath half marathon across the year and hope to raise loads of money as a consequence. Your money will help our nominated charity ‘Priority Youth’ help as many young homeless people as possible – providing accommodation, life skills training, apprenticeships, and funds for twice a year social events for young people of similar disposition to get together and enjoy themselves ... all of which we take for granted, cos the thought of homelessness in our lives is quite literally inconceivable.

If you think we’re nuts – we are! If you are impressed with our efforts – you should be! If you don’t know how we’re going to find the time – neither do we! If you think the charity is a worthy cause – so you should, its local and makes a massive difference to the local community! If you think the juice is worth the squeeze – PLEASE DONATE YOUR MONEY, we don’t just want to raise a bit of money, we want to raise thousands and we’re starting with you lot!

As friends, as colleagues, as business owners, as good contacts... if you think the juice is worth the squeeze, donate accordingly.

Visit: www.justgiving.com/juicesqueezechallenge to sponsor me/us/priority youth NOW!!

Our Juice Squeeze website www.juicesqueezechallenge.com is being built as we speak, and will be live within two weeks ...

And feel free to email us at squeezeme@juicesqueezechallenge.com if you want to know more or find out how you can get involved with any of our challenges throughout the year!

Many thanks in anticipation. Mr James ‘just squeezin’ juice!’

From Ryan James 11th March:

This weekend i’m going to drag my sorry state of a body around the city of bath twice, covering no less than 13 miles in about 2 hours. To help me prepare for my first ever attempt at a half marathon, i’ve been getting up early 3 times a week for the past 4 months (thats basically all the winter months), in the cold, usually raining, often windy conditions to cover about 20 miles a week.

If any of you lot think of yourselves as friends, then you won’t have to cast your mind back too far to remember the days of my inability to run 13 meters without gasping for my asthma puffer, let alone the incomprehensible task of taking on a 13.2 mile half marathon...

And why you might ask?

Cos its part of my ‘Personal Achievement’ challenge as part of the Juice Squeeze Challenge – that each of you should by now know about by now, cos i remember telling each and every one of you... so no excuses there.

And better still ... your money will help our charity Priority Youth help as many young homeless people as possible – providing accommodation, life skills training, apprenticeships, and funds for twice a year social events for young people of similar disposition to get together and enjoy themselves ... all of which we take for granted, cos the thought of homelessness in our lives in quite literally inconceivable.

So there you have it... no excuses not to sponsor me/us/priority youth... whichever takes you fancy!

Our Juice Squeeze website is being built as we speak, and will be live within two weeks ... but why wait till then?

Visit: www.justgiving.com/juicesqueezechallenge to sponsor me/us/priority youth NOW!!

Many thanks in anticipation

Mr James

Ps. Thanks to the very few of you who have taken the effort and donated some of your hard earned cash – we really appreciate it!

From Ryan James 5th March:

I’m partaking in a little adventure called the Juice Squeeze Challenge this year with a few mates – HV, Joby and Mr Wood, not to mention many others of you who will inevitably get roped into to support, take part and enjoy many of the benefits for yourselves as the events unfold throughout the year...

If nothing else please visit: www.justgiving.com/juicesqueezechallenge to find out a little more about the challenge, the charity we’re supporting and why we need your sponsorship.

Of particular note right now, I’m running in the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday 16th March as part of my Juice Squeeze Challenge this month, for which me and my brother in law have been in training for the past 4 months... all you need to decide is whether the Juice is worth the Squeeze?!

Many thanks for your anticipated support.

Mr James

Financial Help to Clear Energy Debts

Do you provide welfare & rights advice to clients? Did you know that you can get financial help to completely clear your client’s energy debts? The Bristol Debt Advice Centre (BDAC) is working with The British Gas and the EDF Energy Trust to help reduce the amount of fuel debt in the South West of England. The British Gas and EDF Energy Trust Fund have £2 million pounds each to give in grants to help clear individual’s gas and electricity arrears across the UK.  To be eligible, the client must have a domestic gas and/or electricity debt and be currently supplied by British Gas or EDF Energy (Formally known as SWEB Energy, SEEBOARD Energy, London Energy and EDF Energy).  So if you or someone you know has energy arrears with British Gas or EDF Energy, the Trust fund may be able to clear the whole debt.  The project can help individuals complete the application and give energy efficiency advice to help better manage future payments.  The Trusts also have a hardship fund for people experiencing extreme hardship needing household items such as cookers – please call the Energy Team for more information.

The project now covers the following areas: Bristol, BANES, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and North Dorset. BDAC are committed to promoting the work of the British Gas and EDF Energy Trust as well as increasing the number of grant applications from the South West of England.
