JOB DESCRIPTION
POST: RELIEF SUPPORT WORKER
RESPONSIBLE TO: DEPUTY PROJECT MANAGER(S)
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The role of the Relief Worker is to ensure the smooth running of St Georges House project. The worker will contribute to the overall aims and objectives of the project and actively facilitate individuals’ independent living. The worker must have the ability to relate well to young people and be able to identify their housing and support needs. The worker must have a commitment to equal opportunities and user empowerment.
Tasks and Duties:
1.0 Housing Management and Support
1.1 To work under the direction of the Hostel Team and the Deputy Manager providing a comprehensive housing management service.
1.2 To identify the housing and support needs of young people who may be reaching independence without basic life skills. This will involve key working with residents.
1.3 To assist in carrying out the care plans of residents helping them to develop social and life skills eg budgeting, cooking etc.
1.4 To provide rota cover which will include working on shifts as directed.
1.5 Report directly to the Project Workers on duty before and after shift to exchange information and alert staff to potential hazards.
1.6 Attend to resident’s enquiries/requests wherever possible to provide supportive night or day cover.
2.0 Administration and Liaison
2.1 To liaise on a regular basis with the Senior Staff to ensure consistent and appropriate support to residents.
2.2 To liaise with external agencies over referrals and residents including the DSS, HB and others.
2.3 To ensure that the rules of the project are adhered to and take responsibility for reporting breaches of safety, security and welfare of staff and residents to other staff and the line manager.
2.4 To assist in the checking of void rooms and prepare for re-letting, clearing personal possessions and providing assistance with cleaning.
2.5 To carry out basic administration duties, updating day books and care files, to answer the phone etc.
2.6 To participate in meetings with staff to discuss individual residents or decisions regarding the project.
3.0 Organisational Responsibilities
3.1 To report to the Deputy Hostel Manager.
3.2 To attend staff supervision and annual job reviews.
3.3 To understand and contribute to the overall objectives of the organisation. To assist in the development of the organisational policy. To follow existing policies and procedures.
3.4 To observe the NHF’s Code of Conduct for employees and Housing, Care and Support Code.
3.5 To carry out other
duties that are consistent with the above as may be required from time to time.
